Extra for Experts

Wow! Check out all the hard work put into homework this week!

Spelling

It's great to see everyone is trying hard to learn their spelling words each week. Mrs Watson, a child's Nana,  comes in every Friday for spelling testing. Mrs Watson puts a tick next to the spelling word that they got right and a dot next to the ones they didn't get right. On a Monday night you will be able to look in your child's homework book and see how they went in their spelling test.

Thank you Christie, Madison's Mum, for bringing in their two kittens this afternoon! We loved having them visit.

Monday's Surprise

Monday 19 February 2018 No comments
What a lovely surprise Room 18 discovered this morning...we have no more caterpillars! We learnt that a caterpillar does not have to be on a plant to make its chrysalis. The guesses have already began on how long we think it will take until we get our first butterfly. What do you think?

Extra for Experts

This is just a reminder that the extra for experts on the bottom of the homework sheet is just an optional task. This does not have to be done. There is time on a Friday morning for children to share this if they have done it. Today we had 4 children share their extra for experts task. They all did a great job at presenting the information they had found in a creative way.

Investigation

This morning when we arrived at school, we discovered that our chrysalis had fallen off the plant and was lying on the table. Room 18 thinks that one of the caterpillars ate the leaves where it was hanging and knocked it off. Ruth, Charlotte's Mum, has carefully taped it onto the wall. We are investigating if it will still turn into a butterfly or not.

Buddy Class

Room 12 is our buddy class this year. This is a year 5 class at G.S.N.S with Ms Harper. Today everyone met their buddy and learnt two things about them. Our buddies were helping us learn how to play our maths games.

Emotive Portraits

We had a great afternoon at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery with John. Our emotive portraits will be on display in Room 18 very soon. They look amazing! A big thank you to all the parent helpers who came along today.

Homework

Homework has begun this week. Every child has a homework book with this weeks homework glued in. At the front of the book you will find your child's lexia and study ladder passwords. This is here as an extra for children who would like to spend more time on these literacy and numeracy websites that we use in class.

There is time on Friday for children to share their optional extra.

Please remember that homework books need to be returned to school every Friday.

Who guessed right?

After making lots of guesses about when we think our first caterpillar will make its chrysalis, this happened over the weekend! What a lovely surprise for Monday morning.  We still have 3 caterpillars that we are keeping a close eye on.

Our caterpillars!

On our science table we have two swan plants. We are very fortunate to have four caterpillars! One of these is getting very big. One of the first things we do each morning is have a look at our caterpillars and make some estimations on when we think they might make their chrysalis. About half of Room 18 think this will happen over the weekend. What do you think?

iPads with Mr Herring

This morning we had a visit from Mr Herring. He taught us how we can use the app Book Creator on the iPads to support our learning. We are very excited to start using this.

Kia ora,

I have sent two notices home today. One is about book bags and the other is about swimming. If you haven't already been given this, please ask your child for these. If you are available to help with swimming this is very much appreciated. Please get your child to return the slip to me as soon as possible.
