Miss Dore went to a Maori course during the school holidays and came back to school with lots of ideas on how we can use te reo Maori in our classroom. Each week we will have a competition to see who can use the most te teo, the tamaiki or the kaiako. This week it was the tamariki! Our reward was to have some free time on Friday afternoon. Some of the activities were playing on the monkey bars, slime, epic, lexia, study ladder, ball sports and drawing.
Bug Hunting and Bird Watching
We were very lucky to have 2 people from the Otago Museum come to our class today. We did bug hunting and bird watching with them. This was lots of fun! We discovered that bugs are hard to find in winter. They gave us 2 tracking tunnels. We have hid these around our school, they have ink inside them. On Monday we will check them and see if there are any footprints inside and if there are, we will figure out what animals they are.

Reminders:
On Friday this week we are able to dress up. The theme is of course related to countries of the world. Children are welcome to dress up and or bring along a toy representing a country of their choice (normally a country that they associate with).
The Cross Country is scheduled for Monday 30th. In the event that the weather is not good on that day it will be moved to the Wednesday. Children will need running shoes, warm layered clothing and a named drink bottle.

Science Table
For science this term we are focusing on insects and spiders (the living world). The children can bring in some insects or spiders that they have found (dead or alive) for our science table if they would like to, or maybe some fake ones they have at home.
If they are alive, please bring them in a container (with holes so they can still breathe). We will release them after a couple of days. I have asked the children to not kill any bugs just to bring them in but if they found one that is already dead then that could be brought in for close viewing.
